Marvel Delays Thor, Captain America, and Avengers, Spider-Man in 2011 Well we sort of knew it had to happen. Let’s face it, Marvel’s initial idea of releasing both “Captain America” and “The Avengers” in the same year a few months part was way too optimistic. Today, the studio has revised their release schedule, and now instead of “The First Avenger: Captain America” and “The Avengers” hitting theaters in 2011 two months apart, Captain America will land first in 2011, while the Avengers will have to wait until 2012 to assemble.
In Thunder God news, “Thor” has also been delayed, moving from its original July 16, 2010 date to June 17, 2011. “Iron Man 2″, originally the companion superhero film for “Thor”, remains in its original May 7, 2010. I guess Marvel knows a hot item when they see it, and sees no reason to mess around with ol Shellhead’s dates. Now instead of “Iron Man 2″ and “Thor”, it’ll be “The First Avenger: Captain America” and “Thor” at the multiplexes in 2011.
Meanwhile, in their press release Marvel also announces that Sony has made May 6, 2011 the official release date for their “Spider-Man 4″. You know, the sequel that doesn’t even have a Peter Parker yet? Well that’s not going to stop Sony, it would appear. Sam Raimi is said to be returning, though why is anybody’s guess.
