Lost Planet 2 Confirmed (323 hits)

Lost Planet 2 Confirmed
Lengthy nine minute trailer now at Marketplace.
by John Tanaka

February 23, 2009 - Capcom's mystery Xbox 360 title was fully unveiled today, and -- surprise, surprise -- it's Lost Planet 2! Xbox 360 owners can download first footage of the game via Xbox Live Marketplace right now.

The nine minute trailer offers a few minutes of gameplay footage followed by a short interview session with director Kenji Oguro.

There are some big changes in store for the game, according to Oguro. While set on the same E.D.N III planet as the original, the snow has melted over the 10 to 20 years time between the two games, leaving a world of jungles and other such environments. The trailer actually begins with a group of characters speeding via boat to a confrontation in a jungle.

That group of characters is apparently a group of snow pirates. We're not sure if they'll actually be called snow pirates in the final version, but Oguro does refer to them as such during the interview session. This time around, rather than focusing on one character, the game will tell the story of a variety of snow pirates.

Gameplay will also be seeing some changes. While still a third person shooter, Oguro hinted at co-op play, while not formally confirming it. The trailer footage does indeed show groups of characters facing off against a giant Akrid creature.

Lost Planet 2 makes use of version 2.0 of Capcom's multiplatform MT Framework engine. This will give the visuals a major boost, said Oguro. You can confirm this for yourself in the trailer.

It's worth noting that the use of the MT Framework, and recent comments by Capcom's Keiji Inafune, suggest that Lost Planet 2 will be coming to the PS3 and PC as well. As this was an Xbox Live trialer, the term PS3 was obviously never mentioned, so we'll have to wait for official comment from Capcom.

Producer Jun Takeuchi closed off the video clip by saying that while he couldn't share a final date for the game, players could probably expect to see more of the title in the not-so-distant future. VIBE-ON!
